ARTIST'S STATEMENT
My paintings are a tender social vehicle of communication that provides a subtle and provocative message to its readers.Based on the universal principal of "as above so below", I aspire to capture the energy and soul that emanates from nature and all of its sentient beings.Following the magical spiral movements of life, I endeavor to bring into critique the human and social conditions of our times.
ARTIST'S BIOGRAPHY
Josephine Monter is a multifaceted artist whose interests encompass painting, sculpture, mask making and the performing arts. She is deeply interested in myth and folklore and has taught mask workshops in New York City at the American Museum of Natural History and the School of Visual Arts for more than fifteen years. Ms. Monter earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from San Jorge Universidad in Barcelona Spain. As an artist, Ms. Monter's work has been exhibited both locally and internationally, including the Internacional Biennial in Ibiza Spain, and New York's American Museum of National History, Northern Westchester Center for the Arts, Cayman Gallery, Macy Gallery at Columbia University, Museum of Contemporary Hispanic Art, Park Avenue Atrium, Corb Gallery at Avery Fisher Hall, the Garrison Art Center, Galeria Picasso, and Manitou Art Studios.
